Stephen McCusker


FORMER Claymores National player and Scottish amateur star Stephen McCusker returns to the Claymores coaching staff for his fifth season.

Amateur standout McCusker, 33, starred at and coached with Scotland's premier amateur gridiron team, the Glasgow Lions from 1990-1996 and is one of Scotland's most well-respected former players and coaches. McCusker also has the responsibility of helping the Claymores develop the sport in Scotland at amateur level as well as identifying new home-based players. He also coached Offensive Line for the Team Europe junior all-star squad and is Vice-President of the British American Football Coaches’ Association.

McCusker's played for the Glasgow Junior Diamonds, the senior Diamonds and the Lions. He also played for the Great Britain Youth Squad (1988-90) and the Great Britain College Squad (1994) as well as at Strathclyde and Glasgow Universities.

Began his coaching career with the Glasgow Diamonds Junior team from 1988-90 while playing in the senior squad. He went on to coach at the Glasgow Junior Lions from 1990-92 and with the seniors from 1992-96.

In 1998, Steve brought his considerable experience coaching young players to the Claymores Under-21 Development Squad where he helped direct the team's offensive line.

Steve is married to Rae and they have a six month old daughter, Katie Dawn.
